Beaver Lake, set among the New Jersey Highlands, was founded as a summer lake resort in 1905 by nine founding families. The initial colonists came seeking a simple life during the summer season, a philosophical ideal of the early twentieth century that attracted city people looking to reduce the complexity of their lives by seeking a place among family and community in a rustic setting.
Today, Beaver Lake remains remarkably unchanged with 124 families returning each summer to enjoy nature and community together among a backdrop of natural beauty, wildlife, and social bonds built through generations of friendship, family, and shared communion on the lake.
